  • Empowering your employees to take an active role in time and attendance procedures will help maintain your policy.

  • Ensuring timely updates will help you stay in compliance with local, state and federal labor laws.

How buttoned-up is your time and attendance policy? Here are a few key factors to consider when creating or updating your policy to keep your business running.

Set clear expectations

Is your team required to be on-site? At what times do shifts or schedules start and end? From clocking in and out to requesting time off, be sure your company’s time and attendance policy is clearly stated in writing for employees to review and understand.

Empower your team to adhere to your policy

If you use punch cards or timesheets, ensure employees know what to do if changes need to be made. Be certain everyone on your team understands how time off works as well, from breaks to time-off requests. The right technology can make it easy to let employees manage their own schedules, request time off and review their pay to ensure it aligns with their worked hours.

Be sure you’re up to date on labor laws

Local, state and federal laws vary and change often. Be sure to stay compliant with regulations surrounding disability, reasonable accommodations and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
