Shaq (he/him) is a senior executive Paycom specialist in our client setup and service department. Shaq partners with Paycom clients to help maximize their return on investment and ensure processes are flowing smoothly throughout our software.
We sat down with Shaq to talk about how his passion for growth and drive to succeed have led to a fulfilling career at Paycom.
Joining a winning culture
I was first drawn to Paycom because of the company’s success. I like to surround myself with winners, so I wanted to work at a place that had the winning formula to help me grow. I didn’t want to keep climbing a company’s ladder and then stagnate. At Paycom, I have a career with unlimited opportunities for growth. And I’ve already experienced this. I joined as a Paycom specialist in 2023 before moving to senior Paycom specialist, executive Paycom specialist and now my current role.
Two of my greatest strengths are critical thinking and communication, and I get to use and hone those skills every day. You really have to put yourself in the clients’ shoes in this position. Whether it’s troubleshooting, providing training or launching a new tool, it’s all about being proactive and thinking about how Paycom’s software can help them achieve their goals.
Growing alongside clients
As a senior executive Paycom specialist, I have the opportunity to work with clients’ leadership teams. One of my favorite things about working with them is that they’re very diligent in their work, so I have to be very diligent in mine. It pushes me to keep growing.
My other favorite part is getting to know our clients on a personal level. I’m not just working with them on their payroll or accruals. I get to learn about their business and what drives them. By building those relationships, I can better understand their needs and provide more tailored support. My desire for growth keeps me excited about the work and pushes me to learn more about our software. That way I can continue to strengthen our partnerships and maximize our clients’ success.
Collaborating across the board
Of course, I work with my clients every day. But there’s also a huge amount of collaboration with our internal teams. I partner with Paycom’s transition team, new client setup team and a lot of different departments for things like taxes, benefits or whatever the client might need help with. It’s my job to educate our team on a client’s process and together, we make sure that they are positioned for success. We’re always working toward client resolution, and we have a good time doing it.
Hard work pays off
A perfect day in the office to me means good vibes in the cube. I’m a big foodie, and on Fridays, we bring breakfast and have a team meeting. Paycom usually has a really good meal in the cafeteria on Fridays, so I enjoy that. And only having to pay $4 for lunch is one of my favorite perks about working here.
I have some financial goals I’ve been working toward, and the competitive pay has put me in a position where I can buy my first property. I’ve also taken advantage of the employee stock purchase plan. It’s really cool to get to cash out on that benefit. I’m always focused on becoming the best version of me — for myself and for our clients.
